GYROTONIC

The GYROTONIC® methodology is an exercise system that aims towards balancing the body by focusing on the integrity of the spine. The handcrafted wooden machines use pulleys and weights for gentle resistance, allowing the joints to move three dimensionally with support and guidance. In Gyrotonic exercises, flexibility, strength and articulation are emphasized simultaneously.  The joints of the body, including the vertebrae of the spinal column, are safely articulated in twisting, spiraling and elongating movements. The connective tissue and muscle around the joint are strengthened as specific breathing patterns help form new connections. When the joints are balanced, flexible and resilient, all of life’s activities can be supported with ease. Gyrotonic is used around the world by physical therapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, and hospital rehabilitation units.

People from all walks of life can benefit from Gyrotonic exercise. Though we all exercise for different reasons with varying goals (mental health, weight loss, strength, coordination, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and stress relief to name a few), we will not thrive if we are strong but not flexible, if we have stamina but are constantly nursing an injury, and so on. Gyrotonic is effective because the system addresses the entire capacity of the human body in a harmonious way so that all benefits of health are experienced.

The inner realms of the self are very much linked to the physical body in which we live. When we dance or run marathons, it is not only with the body. When we write, design, make choices it is not only in the mind. The body, mind and spirit affect and hold each other. In Gyrotonic, the goal is to awaken, express, and heal the entire self through movement.

ELDOA

ELDOA is a postural technique developed by Osteopath Guy Voyer that targets each disc with specific postures which are held for 60 seconds. ELDOA works with the fascial lines of the body to create full body tension in and around the specific vertebral articulation to create more space, more blood flow, disc rehydration and less pressure on the discs. ELDOA exercises address each articulation of the spine individually, starting from the base of the skull and ending with the saro-illiac joint.

ELDOA can help get people out of chronic disc pain, create more awareness, and improve posture.

YOGA NARADA

This class offers each student, be they dancer or not, the chance to relax a little from the everyday pressures and tensions of their regular work-life. It is about learning to meet challenges without undue stress, and finding the channels whereby an ease, rather than force, can enter into the learning process. The approach is gentle yet powerful allowing both expressivity and artistry.

Unlike a traditional Hatha Yoga class, positions are not held but repeated in a fluid undulation that gently unravels the knots both mental and physical, giving the body a sense of comfort in its movement. Each day is taken for its own individual merits, so no two classes are identical. There is a common thread, but, as in nature, there are many ways to achieve the same end.

By allowing the mind to stop fighting the body, rhythm and breath take over. At the same time, the class addresses elements of technique that apply directly to ballet placement, line and control, which are still suitable for everyone.

Beginning with sensory awakenings, the class slowly moves into challenging abdominal work and deeper stretches and hip openings from standing, seated, lying and again standing sequences.  Class moves at a very gentle pace, improves coordination and flexibility, and elevates your mood.

ZERO BALANCING

Zero Balancing is a hands on bodywork system designed to balance and align your energy body and your physical body. Simple yet powerful, it focuses on the whole person while addressing specific needs.  Considered at the leading edge of body/mind therapies, ZB moves beyond Western scientific approaches to body structure by incorporating Eastern concepts of energy and healing. What this does is enable a practitioner to work simultaneously with your structural and energy bodies to bring balance.

The structural body is what you can see and touch -- bone, soft tissue and all the body organs. The energy body is the seen and unseen movement, including muscular movements, movement of tissue fluids, cellular and molecular vibrations, movement within the body fields, and movement of the life force itself. Your energy body directly affects, and in large part is responsible for, your mood, emotions and vitality.
